Circular 004. Modification of the name of OMI courses
CIRCULAR N° 004
WHEREAS
The International Maritime Organization (IMO), in the Report on the Model Course Program foreseen in the “Guidelines for the Development, Review and Validation of Model Courses” (MSC-MEPC 2/Circ. 15/Rev.2), of the 10th session of the Sub-Committee on Human Factors Training and Watchkeeping dated November 3, 2023, in the “Overview of IMO Model Courses”, points out the new courses with their respective IMO codes and consequently the correction of the name of the courses.
WHEREAS
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela adopted within its internal legal system the Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers of 1978 as amended in 1995 (STCW 78/95) by means of an Approving Law published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Venezuela No 5,752 Extraordinary dated January 3, 2005,
WHEREAS
The National Institute of Aquatic Spaces in the exercise of the Aquatic Authority and Administration, has the power to certify the Merchant Marine personnel through the issuance of titles, licenses, endorsements and certifications of Seafarers, in accordance with international conventions and national legislation governing the matter and is the competent entity to recognize the education, training and training of Seafarers.
DECIDES
- To inform the entire aquatic sector in general and the Seafarers in particular that as of the present date the following is established:
- The title of the course “1.13 First aid basic knowledge” is replaced by “1.13 First aid basic knowledge”.
- The title of the course “1.14 First aid” is replaced by “1.14 First aid”.
- The course title “1.15 Medical Care” is replaced by “1.15 Medical Care”.
- The title of the course “3.08 Recognition of equipment and aids to navigation” is replaced by “3.08 Recognition of aids to navigation and nautical equipment”.
- The IMO code for the course “Passenger and cargo safety and hull integrity training” is changed to “1.46 Passenger and cargo safety and hull integrity training”.
- The IMO code of the course “Engine room resource management” is changed to “7.17 Engine room resource management”.
- Nautical Education Centers are urged to access the IMO web page and download the programs of the courses referred to in this Circular, in order to update the contents of their respective courses.
- The Aquatic Authority, through the General Marine Management, through the Seafarers’ Management, shall ensure strict compliance with the provisions of this Circular.
- The contents of this Circular are to be notified through all dissemination mechanisms.
