INEA Press (08.06.2025) – Starting today, the Ministry of People’s Power for Transport, through the National Institute of Aquatic Spaces (INEA), will activate a provisional social fluvial transport route to meet the mobility needs of the communities in the Apure-Guárico axis, while progress is made on the rehabilitation of the land roads in the region.

The provisional route, operated by the Integral System of Aquatic Passenger Transport (SITAP) with the vessel Río Esequibo, will connect the Puente María Nieves sector (in San Fernando de Apure) with Puerto El Indio (in the Municipality Esteros de Camaguán in Guárico).

The National Government has deployed a coordinated effort to guarantee that the population of these areas does not remain isolated. Therefore, this route will be active until the passage in the section of the La Negra-San Fernando highway, which was affected by heavy rains, is completely restored.

The vessel will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, departing from Puente María Nieves at 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., returning from Puerto El Indio at 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The navigation time is 2 hours.

The implementation of this provisional fluvial route is a clear example of the State’s capacity to mobilize resources and make strategic decisions for the benefit of the people.
